Public Consultation for Metro Vancouver Waste Management Plan
Metro Vancouver consulted on its draft waste plan until July 14, 2010. All of the public meetings have now been concluded and the official feedback period has ended. The Metro Board approved sending the plan (which includes options for in-region and out-of-region incineration although with scrutiny by an independent thrid party) to the province for approval July 30. It is now up to Environment Minister, Murray Coell to decide. Tell him you want a better waste reduction plan, not incineration.
Let Minister Coell know of your concerns. Send an email to Waste.Incinerators@WriteWild.net and your message will be forwarded to Minister of Environment Murray Coell and all Metro Vancouver Directors.
Metro Vancouver has listed the feedback it has received to date on its webpage. Feel free to read it to see what others are saying and to ensure your comments are listed. The more complete listing of all feedback and Metro’s response to it can be seen in links from their Board package. Sadly, unless the Board members took the time to read it themselves (thousands of pages), your feedback was not presented to them. The summary provided by Metro staff glossed over opposition to the plan and only highlighted quotes from a few supporters (who represented under 15% of the written feedback). Feedback from people who spoke at the public meetings has yet to be found in the compilation of feedback.
